FASHION INSPIRED – ART DISPLAYS
Happy 2018 beautiful!
The jewelry portion of VeruDesigns has been dominating my time throughout 2017. But today I get to reveal my first non-jewelry artworks of the year: Two fashion inspired Art Displays.
Enjoy!
DISPLAY # 1: CAROLINA HERRERA – PRE-FALL 2018
ART BOX
To say that I’m a huge fan of fashion designer Carolina Herrera, is an understatement. I’ve loved her work since I was a little girl. And her most recent collections presented during New York Fashion Week were no exception.
For my first art shadow box, I picked one of Mrs. Herrera’s PRE FALL 2018 collection looks as inspiration. The glass/brass shadow box is 8′ by 8′ in size (20cm by 20 cm), but the actual clay outfit (coat and skirt) are approximately 5 inches long (12cm). I placed a 25 US cent coin in there as reference!
The coat, skirt, boots, hangers are of course 100% handmade with PVC clay. The construction of both, the coat and skirt were done by tracing and cutting the individual patterns for each individual piece (including the seams), the same way a dressmaker would do for a regular size version of this outfit. I absolutely LOVE how it turned out!
It’s the perfect art piece for a studio or office desk, and not just to beautify the space but feel inspired all day long 🙂
The beauty is truly in the details.
DISPLAY # 2: BOLIVIAN ATTIRE/CHRISTIAN DIOR FALL 2005
ART CAPSULE
As you know, Bolivia (my birth country) is always a big inspiration in my work. The incredible colors, and more specifically the dramatic “polleras” that our native women wear, are a sight to behold! I’m sure this is exactly what designer John Galliano thought when he visited South America, and decided to create a whole collection inspired by our native women’s attire back in 2005.
The beautiful ART CAPSULE that I created, is very much inspired by two particular looks of Christian Dior’s Fall 2005 collection. For this piece, I created a miniature mannequin to showcase all the elements of this very typical Bolivian-Andean look.
I’m absolutely in love with this piece! The glass dome is 10.5 inches high (27 cm high), but the art piece itself is 8.3 inches high (22 cm). Like the prior art display, this is a statement art piece for any room of the home or office. I love placing it on my desk. It makes me so happy to see it every other minute.
Just like the prior art piece, everything was 100% handmade with PVC clay. The process started with the mannequin (which is made of very light white clay, molded with my hands by instinct). The outfit (blouse and skirt) doesn’t only look like a “real life” pollera and blouse, but are made the same way. Just like in real life, our mannequin wears an undergarment that includes the first layer for their skirts (polleras).
The details are of course my favorite part! Both making them and looking at them afterwards 🙂
Left and right sides
I made two different pair of shoes for this look, and one hat. (The hat is critical!). The base for our mannequin was meant to not only look like “carved wood”, but is rock solid and keeps the whole structure very stable.
Fun, fun, fun!
What do you think?
If you missed seeing art jewelry today, I promise to go back to jewelry for next month’s reveal. I just needed to make something different. Hopefully you enjoyed it as well.
If you enjoy fashion design, do you have any favorite designers whose works you’d like to see inspiring any future art display? I would LOVE to know! Please share in the comments section below. If you enjoy seeing this kind of work, I’ll create the time to make something that you’d like to see!
Ok. That was it! Allow me to wish you a FANTASTIC 2018! Whatever your intentions are, I believe this is a year that will be much more forgiving then the last one.
Stay well, stay happy and stay healthy. I’ll be in touch in a month!

So fun. And they are beautiful. As usual!
Thank you for your words and support dear Lise’! Very grateful for you! 🙂
You are simply amazing❤️ I feel so honored to have one of your first pieces….and so gorgeous every time I wear it.
Dearest Karen!! It is SO wonderful to read you! Thank you so much. This little world began with your support, your belief in me and YOUR appreciation for my works early on. You are one of the reasons it all grew from there! THANK YOU!
Wow you are so creative. You continue to amaze me with your original ideas – thank you so much for sharing them.
I hope you have a fabulous year.
Thank you so very much dear Sue! I’m so happy you enjoyed this post! It was A LOT of fun to make. It’s the closest joy I’ve felt to actually playing with dolls when I was a kid. Thank you for your wishes. May this year be wonderful and full of new beautiful memories for you and all your loved ones!
I love love your art pieces. You are incredibly talented. The clothes , shoes and hangers in the boxes remind me so much of the doll clothes my grandmother made for me. She was a very talented seamstress and embroiderer.
Your glass boxes are lovely.
Thank you for sharing these with us.
Dear Joan – The fact that these works remind you of your grandmother means the world to me! I’m sure my miniature clay clothes don’t come even close to her talent, but I respect her craft very much, and like to imagine that she may have enjoyed seeing this celebration of clothing design as well. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me!
Thank you for sharing your inspiration and unique art Verusehka.
I too make things, and would love to know your source for the 8″x8″ glass boxes that you display your work in. If you would be willing to share where you get the glass box, I would love to know. Thanks again, and I enjoy getting your periodical updates emailed to me.

Hi Linda! Thank you so much and of course! I’m happy to share. I work with a local friend/artisan based in Philadelphia. She sources the glass/brass boxes from MyGift.com, Alibaba.com and she also seeks out vintage boxes at several antique stores in the city. She then customizes the box for me based on what I plan to showcase. In this case, she added a lovely backsplash covered in a very organic fabric that is neutral. Other times she’ll create a backing based on specific colors I need.
Happy 2018 to you too dear Veruschka! I know this year will fill you with all the happiness and success you deserve! Your loving energy is felt in every blog post, through your words, or your art, or both! This post is pure joy! Thank you for sharing! Also, are they going to be available for sale on your shop? Or, could I commission something similar for myself?
Oh wow! You’re making me cry Claudia. Thank you. There is nothing more beautiful than feeling “seen”, even when it happens through words or art. Thank you, for sharing these beautiful thoughts with me. And yes! Just e-mail me directly at veruschka(at)verudesigns(dot)com to discuss what you’d like!
How fun!! Change is always good. I love experiencing your creative ideas. I used to love playing with barbie dolls as a little girl. This seems just the perfect thing for the adult me that never stopped loving those memories. Thank you!
I LOVED playing with barbies myself! And it’s this old passion of mine that draws me towards miniature creations like these. So happy it resonated with you too Joanne! Happy new year!
Happy new year Veruschka and how WONDERFUL to start with your beautiful newsletters. I thoroughly enjoyed this post. The detail is just so much fun, and such an original idea!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!
Thank you Mary! Also, happy new year to you!

Happy new year dear Leslie! Thank you so much (so happy you like these!). Yeah, the details are the most fun to make. Thank you for opening and enjoying my first blog of the year, and may this year bring you the manifestation of your intentions and dreams! Much love <3
